LOTR REMIX!!!!!!!!!!

Keywords Video

I realize the first post’s link didn’t work….. I fixed it :D

Here’s my Keywords Project

Keywords Project (Unified Composition)

This is a picture of Women under the affect of hysteria from back in the late 19th century.

In regards to the music I listened to here is the music video of “Hysteria” by Muse.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3dm_5qWWDV8

In the video there is a man in a hotel room and he wakes up to find the place trashed and a video camera of what looks to be him stalking a woman and then a video of him sleeping with her. The intersting thing is it is that it relates to the orignial meaning of the word but to the opposite gender. The man seems to be going into a paniced or enraged state once he sees what he is done in regards to the sex and stalking. I thought it was interesting how that tied together.

This song is “American Eulogy” by Green Day

This song is more about “mass hysteria” and how it applys to America and the modern age, in a sense. The meaning behind “the class of ‘13” is when the singer’s (bill joe armstrong) kids graduate, so he is mostly stating how the world might become when his kids enter it at that time.

HysteriAAAA!!!!

 Hysteria

So for my Keyword this week I decided to do the word Hysteria. And I gotta say, this is probably one of the most interesting words I’ve looked up, not so much for the definition, but more so for the history behind the meaning.

I advise an age of 16 or older to view this blog post.

Hysteria is a state of mind, one of unmanageable fear or emotional distress. People who suffer from hysteria usually lose self control due to their overwhelming fear. Since before the 17th century, this was thought to have been only a condition women were effected by that was caused by vaginal dryness due to lack of sex (No joke). Hysteria comes from the Greek root “hustera” which means ”uterus”. It was the belief that if the uterus had become too light and dry, it would move upwards into the body, compressing the heart, lungs, and diaphram, which resulted in panic and distress from the area where the uterus rested. Doctors would treat with massaging the effected areas and give water spray treatments. In about the 1880s the “Vibrator” was invented by Kelsey Stinner to help treat “female hysteria”. Now a days the treatments are far less controversial. Hysteria is now classified a psychological disorder and is treated with therapy and medication.

Now the reason I chose the word “Hysteria” at first was not because of it’s background. I had put my Ipod on random while doing homework and three songs in a row contained hysteria: “Hysteria” Def Leppard, “Amerian Eulogy” Green Day, and “Hysteria” Muse. I thought it was rather interesting that the three songs were back to back, so I went to use this as my Keyword and as I began typing and had the news on in the background, they were talking about the “hysteria in congress” in regards to the health care bill. So it added solidarity to my intrest in the word.

In listening to the songs and watching the News the idea of “Mass Hysteria” came about. Mass hysteria is when a group of people or the public share a concern in which they panic about. This has been seen in UFO and crop circle sightings. I feel that people downgrade the actual meaning of the word for things such as the “hysteria” in congress, its more figurative than literal.

The word “Hysterical” comes from this too. Hysterical originally came from a medical term that ment anything dealing with the uterus. But over time because of “hysteria” meaning unmanagable emotion, when people thought someonthing was overwhelmingly funny they called it “hysterical”.

Jargon

Here’s an article about Jargon and people’s annoyance with it in the British workplace. This slightly ties into my blog because it is showing different types of languages used in a certain group.

Jargon

Here is a record company called “Jargon Records”, I thought it was interesting how it tied to music.
